Tonbridge and Malling Liberal Democrats select Liz Simpson11.03.11am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 11th Jun 2008
Tonbridge and Malling Liberal Democrats are delighted to announce that Liz Simpson was elected as Prospective Parliamentary Candidate. The well known Tonbridge and Malling Borough Councillor, was unanimously elected at the hustings at the Angel Centre, Tonbridge. Hugh Stirk, Chair of the Constituency Party, said, " We are delighted that Liz has been selected to be the Lib Dem candidate at the next General Election. She is a hard working councillor with a reputation for standing up for her community. I know that she will do the same for the whole constituency." Liz Simpson has been a Borough Councillor for East Malling since 1991, and has been a Parish Councillor for 9 years. As well as being Chair of Governors at a local primary and nursery school, she has been Chair of the Housing Committee, Cabinet Member for Housing and Chair of Area 3 Planning Committee. Liz Simpson says, "I am thrilled to have been selected. I have lived in the Constituency all of my life and have brought up my family here - it is an area that I care deeply about - and which I would be proud to represent and speak up for." Lib Dems want to see a fair, free and open society - and believe that after 34 years with the same MP it is time for a change. Liz says, " I see for myself the struggle to afford a home, to pay ever increasing Council Tax bills and how angry they get when they see their money being wasted. They don't want every spare scrap of land being built on and are fed up with congested roads and poor public transport. People no longer trust the Government to act in their best interests. It is time for a change - and Lib Dems offer that chance for change."
