Altrincham & Sale West select Cllr Jane Brophy as prospective parliamentary candidate12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 27th Mar 2007 Altrincham & Sale West Liberal Democrats select well known Cllr Jane Brophy as prospective parliamentary candidate at a packed meeting in Timperley last Thursday. After the meeting Cllr Jane Brophy said: "I am delighted that Altrincham & Sale West Liberal Democrats members have put their trust in me as our next parliamentary candidate. The next general election could be anything from 6 months to three years away - whenever it is the Lib Dems are ready to take on both Labour and the Conservatives." Cllr Jane Brophy has served as a Trafford Councillor in Village Ward for eight years and has lived in Altrincham for over 16 years. She attended Chorlton High School in Manchester. She has a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Leeds and a post-graduate qualification in Nutrition and Dietetics. Jane Brophy has worked as an NHS Health Professional for many years and has also worked as a researcher and nutritionist for the Altrincham based national charity The Vegetarian Society (UK). Cllr Jane Brophy said: As a Liberal Democrat I believe our democracy needs to be protected and enhanced so that all people have a chance to reach their full potential. Only by standing up to be counted and enabling others to do likewise can our society be free, safe and fair. The green dimension is central to my beliefs because only by protecting the planet for future generations can we enable our children to reach their potential. These are the reasons why I am proud to be standing as a prospective parliamentary candidate for the Liberal Democrats. Jane has been married to John, a computer specialist, for 21 years and they have three children aged nine, eleven and fourteen. She joined the Liberal Democrats in 1986 and went on to be Chair of the national youth organisation. She has worked in the Liberal Democrat MPs in the House of Commons, Westminster and as has been an elected member of the Parties Policy and Conference committees. Her political passions include the environment, health and educational issues. She has been a leading Green Liberal Democrat campaigner for many decades and organised their national conference at Trafford Town Hall in June 2006. Her spare time interests include bike riding with the family, running, listening to music and playing the clarinet. Jane supports our excellent Trafford schools. Her three children attend the Willows Primary School, Wellington High School and Altrincham College of Arts. She is the Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Children & Young people for our Trafford Group. Jane has been a school governor at many Trafford schools and is currently a Local Education Authority governor at Heyes Lane Junior School and Manor High Special School. For many years she has been a supportive member of the Trafford Special Educational Needs Family Support Group as a parent of a child with an SEN statement.
2005 General Election parliamentary candidate Ian Chappell added "Jane has all the qualities required of a parliamentary candidate - motivation, resilience and above all, a desire to represent the interests of the whole community".
