Get yourself Selected - Sal Brinton encourages all women candidates7.58.04am GMT Wed 4th Jan 2006 Being selected to fight a parliamentary seat for a local party seems somewhat daunting the first time round, and I am know my experience is echoed by many other parliamentary hopefuls. But like everything else in politics, preparation and training really helps.
I can remember the first time I was selected in 1995 that the process seemed to take on a life of its own, and I had little idea of how to make effective contact with the members. Although everyone involved from the Returning Officer to the Selection Committee and the individual members were friendly, I found it quite daunting, and really would have welcomed some practical training on how to make the best of myself. And the selection rules seem so long! GBTF is determined to help the party get even more women into parliament. If you want to fight a seat next time, you need to start thinking now about how to get selected. Make it your new year's resolution, and sign up for one of our Getting Selected days early in 2006. Sal Brinton PS If this isn't for you, but you know a woman who should attend, please pass this on to her! ----The first of these days takes place on Saturday 7th January, Hamilton House at10.30am. Suitable for all approved women candidates and all those applying for approval. Please e.mail gbtf@libdems.org.uk or call 07870 171708 for more information and to book a place.
